Gold is one of the safest investments available as it recovers its value quickly after economic downturns and retains its values during periods of inflation. Pack It Post checks all gold submitted to us for potency and ensures we pass on the genuine article. We buy gold in many forms, such as ornaments, jewellery, coins and bullion.
So many fascinating products come through our doors every day, from antique ornaments made of solid gold to gold plated jewellery. We can take in charm bracelets to chains, watches, and coins.
Gold is arguably the most decorated of metals. If it were produced over one hundred years ago, it would be classed as antique gold. On modern gold, you can find out the age of your gold item by checking for its hallmark. However, many antique gold products didn't get hallmarked, which caused the myth that antique gold was not real gold. British hallmarking is over 700-year-old practice but was not a standardised legal process until the 70s. If you have an old piece with a hallmark, consider yourself lucky to own a rare piece. The lack of hallmarking was usually down to the sheer cost of producing one, and even more occasional if the item made had old jewels too!
Gold is purest at 24 CT but is too soft to be worn, meaning that it must be mixed with different metals to strengthen it. The strength of the metal reduces its overall purity and, therefore, value. As specialists in dealing with gold, we can test your items to see if it is antique based on whether it tests as 15CT gold or 12CT gold. We then can determine by the colour the age – a warmer, darker colour is a signature appearance of antique gold.
We evaluate many gold items to investigate their age. Whether genuine, pure, vintage or antique products, not all gold items are suitable for melting down. However, all gold items have a story and could be connected to family heritage, passed down through wedding rings or jewellery, and have cultural or family significance. If you are interested in parting with your gold, you can send them to us for evaluation. You may have an item that you aren't sure if it is real gold or not, or not sure about its age, or it may not be as old as you think. Industry experts in their fields carry out our appraisals, so you can safely know that your items will be appropriately assessed. We have specialist safe delivery options for you to choose from too. If you want to get the process underway but are unsure how to start, feel free to contact us at admin@packitpostit.co.uk or drop us a call at 08001125512, we can't wait to hear from you.
